DR ‹ › The meeting of the National Monitoring Committee in charge of managing and tracking flood-related events, held on Friday in Rabat, provided an opportunity to review the coordination of a collective response aimed at ensuring an immediate intervention and the deployment of human and logistical resources to support and assist populations affected by the exceptional weather conditions impacting several regions of the Kingdom, Minister of Equipment and Water Nizar Baraka said. Speaking to the press, Baraka noted that the Committee strongly welcomed King Mohammed VI's calling for the immediate intervention of the Royal Armed Forces (FAR) and the deployment of significant human and logistical resources to assist populations in affected areas and protect citizens' lives. He added that the Committee, in coordination with regional and provincial committees, is working on the development of an atlas identifying flood-prone areas, as well as early-warning mechanisms to anticipate future risks. This effort also includes an action plan for preventive flood response, supported by mapping tools to assess the scale of potential flooding and the associated risks. The meeting brought together ministers and senior officials representing the various government departments, institutions, and services that are members of the Committee. It comes as part of the close monitoring and heightened attention given by public authorities to the impact of recent weather disturbances affecting several regions of the Kingdom, particularly Ksar El Kébir, following exceptional flooding caused by heavy rainfall, rising river levels, and challenges related to the management of dam reserves, which have reached a 100% filling rate due to significant water inflows.
