DR ‹ › The provincial director of Equipment and Water in Larache province, Azeddine Ait Taleb, confirmed that efforts are ongoing in Ksar El Kebir to protect residential neighborhoods threatened by flooding following the rise in the Loukkos River's water level. In a statement to the Moroccan News Agency, the official said that work is currently underway to install temporary preventive barriers to prevent Loukkos River waters from reaching flood-prone areas of the city. These measures are being taken as a precaution to safeguard lives, protect property, and ensure the safety and security of residents. He added that a monitoring and vigilance committee, chaired by the governor of Larache province, Bouassam El Alamine, has been on site since Tuesday to closely follow developments, in response to the weather alert issued by the General Directorate of Meteorology. The committee carried out field inspections of the Loukkos River, including visits to several sensitive and high-risk locations. Provincial authorities in Larache had earlier announced the declaration of a state of maximum alert in Ksar El Kebir after the Loukkos River overflowed due to heavy rainfall in the northwestern region of the Kingdom. The maximum alert level was extended to all relevant services, including local authorities, security services, the Loukkos Hydraulic Basin Agency, the regional multiservice company, the provincial directorate of Equipment and Water, the Ksar El Kebir municipality, and other concerned departments. This comes as part of ongoing monitoring of flood-prone areas following recent water releases from the Oued Al-Makhazine dam. Provincial authorities also urged all concerned parties to demonstrate a sense of responsibility and cooperation, and to remain vigilant until these exceptional weather conditions subside. It is worth noting that Larache province has recorded cumulative rainfall exceeding 600 millimeters since last September. These significant rainfall levels have brought the Oued Al-Makhazine dam to full capacity (100%).
