DR ‹ › The Spanish port of Tarifa once again suspended its maritime connections with Tangier on Monday due to bad weather in the Strait of Gibraltar, according to the Port Authority of the Bay of Algeciras. The decision comes as severe weather continues to disrupt maritime traffic across the region. In Algeciras, the Port Authority has maintained access restrictions for trucks bound for Tanger Med, while allowing operations at container terminals to continue. According to the same source, ferry services between Algeciras and North Africa remain operational for the time being, despite difficult navigation conditions. Port Authority President Gerardo Landaluce described the situation as exceptional, pointing to the unusual persistence of adverse weather affecting port activity in the strait. Since the partial resumption of maritime traffic from Thursday through Sunday, nearly 3,000 trucks have departed for Tangier, with a similar number traveling in the opposite direction. During the same period, around 2,000 units accessed the container terminals, according to official figures. In response to these exceptional conditions, Landaluce said traffic management depends on close coordination among all stakeholders, while also noting the need to consider additional logistical solutions in the future to better cope with such disruptions.
