DR ‹ › The PJD has strongly condemned remarks made by U.S. Ambassador to Israel Mike Huckabee regarding the concept of a «Greater Israel». In a statement issued Sunday following a February 21 meeting chaired by Secretary-General Abdelilah Benkirane, the party's general secretariat expressed its «deep dismay» over what it described as the ambassador's «dangerous and provocative statements». The PJD criticized Huckabee for recognizing Israel's control over territories belonging to Arab states, particularly the occupied West Bank, «under the pretext of a mythical biblical promise». The party said the remarks undermine the sovereignty of Arab nations and constitute a clear violation of international law and relevant United Nations resolutions governing the conflict. The Islamist party also called on all countries not only to «condemn and denounce» the ambassador's statements, but to «mobilize all their material and moral resources to confront this usurping entity and oppose its supporters before it is too late». In an interview on Friday, Huckabee reportedly said that the land of Israel stretches «from the Nile to the Euphrates», a territory spanning from Egypt to Iraq, including Syria. «It would be great if they took it all», he added, prompting widespread criticism in several capitals. In a joint statement issued Sunday morning, more than a dozen countries, including Gulf states, Egypt, Turkey, and Indonesia, along with regional organizations such as the Arab League, expressed their «strong condemnation and deep concern» over the remarks, calling them contrary to the principles of sovereignty and regional stability.
