DR ‹ › Around 15,000 families affected by the recent floods in northern and western Morocco have already received direct financial assistance of 6,000 dirhams each, the Minister Delegate in charge of the Budget, Fouzi Lekjaa, announced Thursday in Rabat following the government council meeting. The assistance is part of a government support program aimed at helping communities hit by the disaster. It targets households that faced flood risks and were forced to leave their homes for safer areas. The minister said authorities are working to ensure the aid reaches those who are entitled to it. For homes that suffered damage, the government plans to grant 15,000 dirhams to families who have returned to their residences to help cover rehabilitation costs. Businesses affected by the floods will also be eligible for the same amount. For households whose homes have completely collapsed, particularly in certain rural areas, compensation of 140,000 dirhams per dwelling will be provided, based on assessments conducted by local authorities, to support reconstruction. The severe weather also caused damage to several infrastructures, including bridges, roads, and rural tracks. Repair and rehabilitation work has already begun, led by the relevant ministerial departments in coordination with local authorities. The government also plans to support the agricultural sector, with direct assistance for farmers affected by the floods to help them resume their activities, whether in livestock or crop production, during the upcoming spring farming season. Overall, the support program mobilizes 3 billion dirhams to finance reconstruction, revive economic activity, and assist affected populations.
