DR ‹ › For the past few days, members of the Polisario Front have been entering territories located west of the Sand Wall, without intervention from Royal Armed Forces (RAF) drones to stop them. «Among the groups accessing these areas are men, women, and even children. They have set up tents and raised the Polisario flag. FAR drones are monitoring these movements», a source close to the matter told Yabiladi. This new development raises questions about the objectives of these temporary expeditions organized in areas west of the Sand Wall, as well as the absence of any response from Moroccan military drones. Since the Polisario withdrew from the ceasefire on November 13, 2020, FAR drones have targeted anyone, civilian or military, who ventured into these territories. According to the same source, these groups first received the green light from the Polisario leadership before heading to the area, as suggested by the logistics made available to them. These incursions are taking place in the context of discussions initiated by the Trump administration involving Morocco, Algeria, the Polisario, and Mauritania. In September 2024, the Front requested that MINURSO ensure the return of its members to what it calls its «liberated territories», located east of the Sand Wall. The request was made by «Sahrawi civilians» in a letter addressed to the UN mission. The authors of the letter claimed that the «Sahrawis entering these areas are doing so in search of pastures for their camels and sheep». They also argued that this presence is «a legitimate right in accordance with international law and Security Council resolutions». Since the Front's decision to resume armed hostilities against Morocco, about 5,000 Sahrawis have left the area east of the Sand Wall, according to figures from the Sahrawi Red Crescent (SRC).
