DR ‹ › The anti-gang unit of the Beni Mellal police, in coordination with the Directorate General of Territorial Surveillance (DGST), arrested five individuals on Monday, including three repeat offenders. They are suspected of involvement in drug and psychotropic substance trafficking, as well as the attempted murder of a police officer in the line of duty. The operation was carried out in the rural area of Bni Khirat, about 20 km from Oued Zem, with the support of judicial police units from Khouribga, Bejaâd, Kasbat Tadla, and Oued Zem, according to a statement from the General Directorate of National Security (DGSN). The suspects, aged between 34 and 46, were caught in the act of transporting drugs from a northern city in the kingdom using a utility vehicle and an all-terrain vehicle. The suspects refused to comply and attempted to flee at high speed, injuring three police officers, who received first aid. A fourth officer was seriously injured after being deliberately struck by a vehicle, sustaining multiple injuries to the head and body. He was admitted to intensive care in critical condition. Search operations led to the seizure of 2 kg of cocaine, 310 kg of kif, 11 kg of cannabis resin (chira), and 72.9 kg of contraband tobacco. Authorities also recovered a bladed weapon, an unauthorized hunting rifle, and two falsified license plates. Two of the suspects are the subject of multiple national arrest warrants in connection with cases involving drug trafficking, attempted murder, illegal possession of a firearm, and participation in a criminal network. All five suspects have been placed under judicial investigation.
