Farhan Haq / DR ‹ › The United Nations has distanced itself from a recent initiative spearheaded by U.S. Republican Senator Ted Cruz, which seeks to label the Polisario Front as a terrorist organization. «The UN has regarded the Frente Polisario as one of the key parties involved in the Western Sahara conflict, and we continue to deal with them, as we do with the Governments of Morocco, Algeria, Mauritania and other involved regional parties», stated the deputy spokesperson for the UN Secretary-General last night, in response to a journalist's inquiry. Farhan Haq, however, avoided commenting on the potential «impact» of the legislative proposals introduced by American lawmakers on the discussions initiated by the Trump administration concerning the Sahara issue, as requested by the journalist. It's noteworthy that a Polisario delegation took part in two meetings held in February, one at the U.S. embassy in Madrid and another in Washington, alongside representatives from Morocco, Algeria, Mauritania, and the UN.
