DR ‹ › Morocco is exploring the launch of direct flights to India to boost tourism, though officials say current passenger volumes are still insufficient, Times of India reported on Tuesday. The country welcomed nearly 54,000 Indian visitors in 2025, a figure expected to reach 70,000 in 2026. «Once the number touches one lakh, a direct flight will be viable», said Jamal Kilito, country manager of the Moroccan National Tourism Office, during a media roundtable in Chennai, eastern India. For now, travel between the two countries relies on connections via West Asia or Europe, increasing travel time and limiting accessibility. Morocco already hosts at least 10 Indian weddings annually and receives around 15 MICE groups, while also attracting Bollywood productions supported by government subsidies, Kilito added. Key destinations include Marrakech, Fez, Casablanca, Rabat, and Tangier. Industry professionals note that high airfares remain a major obstacle. «If direct flights are introduced, costs will drop and more people will choose Morocco», said Sriharan Balan, managing director of Madura Travel Service Pvt Ltd.
