DR ‹ › The Moroccan Campaign for Academic and Cultural Boycott has called for a boycott of concerts by French singer Kendji Girac, scheduled for the end of April in Rabat and Casablanca. In a statement, the campaign urged the organizers of «The Unforgettable Show» not to offer a platform to an artist it accuses of supporting Israel, citing his collaborations with Israeli artists, participation in events in Tel Aviv, and past media statements it says align with promotional efforts for the country. The group called for denying a platform to artists it believes help «whitewash» what it describes as the crimes of the occupation, warning that it will launch boycott campaigns and organize peaceful protests if its demands are not met. The campaign argued that while art is a universal language, it cannot be separated from its political context, particularly when it is used, in its view, to obscure serious violations. It added that cultural institutions bear an ethical responsibility in selecting the artists they host. It also pointed to the advisory opinion issued by the International Court of Justice on July 19, 2024, as well as a United Nations General Assembly resolution adopted on September 18, 2024, saying these developments reinforce the legitimacy of boycott as an ethical and legal form of pressure.
