DR ‹ › Following a visit to Austria, Foreign Minister Nasser Bourita continues his diplomatic tour across Europe. On Thursday, he met with David Lammy, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Justice, in London. The former British Foreign Secretary remarked that «the United Kingdom and Morocco share a historic and invaluable partnership, marked as one of the oldest diplomatic ties in the world. A year after the signing of our strategic partnership, we are further strengthening our cooperation in areas of growth and security». It is worth recalling that David Lammy, during his tenure as Foreign Secretary, announced on June 1, 2025, in Rabat, the UK's support for Morocco's autonomy plan for Western Sahara. Nasser Bourita also engaged in discussions with his British counterpart, Yvette Cooper. «Our partnership is mutually beneficial, especially as we look ahead to the 2030 World Cup. We addressed the restoration of freedom of navigation in the Strait of Hormuz and the 2007 Moroccan autonomy plan, which remains the most credible, viable, and pragmatic foundation for peace in Western Sahara», she stated. This visit takes place as the UN Security Council prepares to review, on April 30, a potential revision of the MINURSO mandate, in line with resolution 2797. In this context, London's support, as a permanent member of the UN's executive body, is particularly significant. The trip also coincides with the inclusion of decision No. 1/2026 of the UK-Morocco Association Council on the House of Lords' agenda. Adopted on March 16, 2026, this decision amends Protocol No. 4 concerning the definition of «originating products» and the methods of administrative cooperation under the association agreement between the two parties. While in London, Nasser Bourita also held discussions with Hamish Falconer, the Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs responsible for the Middle East and North Africa, and Chris Bryant, the Minister of Trade.
