The General Directorate of Meteorology (DGM) has issued an orange-level alert, warning of an impending heatwave accompanied by stormy showers, hail, and gusty winds during thunderstorms, set to hit several Moroccan provinces from Monday through Friday. On Monday, temperatures are expected to soar between 40 and 44°C in the provinces of Tata, Zagora, Khouribga, Ouezzane, Beni Mellal, Fquih Ben Salah, Meknès, El Hajeb, Fès, Sefrou, Moulay Yacoub, Taounate, and Taza. This heatwave will persist into Tuesday and Wednesday, affecting the provinces of Taza, El Kelaa des Sraghna, Ouezzane, Rehamna, Beni Mellal, Meknès, Fès, Moulay Yacoub, Khouribga, Settat, Chichaoua, Marrakech, Khémisset, Youssoufia, Taounate, and Taroudant, with temperatures remaining in the 40 to 44°C range. From Tuesday to Friday, the heat is set to intensify, with temperatures climbing to between 44 and 47°C in the provinces of Tata, Assa-Zag, Es-Semara, Oued Ed-Dahab, Boujdour, and Aousserd. In addition, stormy showers accompanied by hail and gusty winds are forecasted for Monday between 2 PM and 11 PM in the provinces of Errachidia, Figuig, Azilal, Al Haouz, Tinghir, Ouarzazate, Boulemane, Midelt, Khénifra, and Ifrane, with rainfall expected to accumulate between 15 and 25 mm.
