A looming heatwave is set to grip several Moroccan provinces with temperatures soaring between 40 and 47°C, accompanied by storm showers, hail, and gusty winds, according to an orange-level alert issued by the General Directorate of Meteorology (DGM). The DGM forecasts that from Wednesday to Sunday, temperatures will climb to between 44 and 47°C in the provinces of Tata, Taroudant, Assa-Zag, Es-Semara, Oued Ed-Dahab, Boujdour, and Aousserd. During the same period, the mercury is expected to hover between 40 and 44°C in the provinces of Fquih Ben Salah, Beni Mellal, El Kelaa des Sraghna, Rehamna, Settat, Chichaoua, Marrakech, Youssoufia, Azilal, Al Haouz, Tan-Tan, Guelmim, and Laâyoune, according to the same source. On Wednesday, temperatures will rise to between 40 and 44°C in the provinces of Ouezzane, Meknès, Fès, Moulay Yacoub, Khouribga, Khémisset, Taza, Taounate, Guercif, Sefrou, and Khénifra. From Friday to Sunday, similar temperature increases are expected in the provinces of Essaouira, Safi, Sidi Bennour, Inezgane-Ait Melloul, Chtouka-Ait Baha, Agadir-Ida-Ou-Tanane, Tiznit, Sidi Ifni, and Tarfaya, the DGM specifies. Furthermore, on Wednesday, several provinces will experience storm showers with hail and gusty winds from 1 p.m. to 10 p.m. Rainfall accumulations between 20 and 40 mm are anticipated in the provinces of Al Haouz, Taroudant, Ouarzazate, Azilal, and Tinghir, while precipitation of 15 to 30 mm is expected in Boulemane, Sefrou, Taza, Khénifra, Chichaoua, Midelt, Al Hoceïma, Jerada, Taourirt, Guercif, and El Kelaa des Sraghna, concludes the DGM.
