A heatwave with temperatures ranging from 40°C to 47°C, along with stormy showers, hail, and strong gusts of wind, is expected from Wednesday through Sunday across several provinces in Morocco, according to an orange-level alert issued by the General Directorate of Meteorology (DGM). The DGM forecasts scorching temperatures between 44°C and 47°C in the provinces of Tata, Taroudant, Assa-Zag, Es-Semara, Oued Ed-Dahab, Boujdour, and Aousserd during this period. Temperatures between 40°C and 44°C are also expected in the provinces of Fquih Ben Salah, Beni Mellal, El Kelaa des Sraghna, Rehamna, Settat, Chichaoua, Marrakech, Youssoufia, Azilal, Al Haouz, Tan-Tan, Guelmim, and Laâyoune. On Wednesday, rising temperatures of 40°C to 44°C will also affect the provinces of Ouezzane, Meknès, Fès, Moulay Yacoub, Khouribga, Khémisset, Taza, Taounate, Guercif, Sefrou, and Khénifra. From Friday to Sunday, similar heat is expected in the provinces of Essaouira, Safi, Sidi Bennour, Inezgane-Ait Melloul, Chtouka-Ait Baha, Agadir-Ida-Ou-Tanane, Tiznit, Sidi Ifni, and Tarfaya. In addition to the heatwave, thunderstorms with hail and strong winds are forecast for Wednesday from 1 p.m. to 10 p.m. Rainfall of 20 to 40 mm is expected in Al Haouz, Taroudant, Ouarzazate, Azilal, and Tinghir. Other provinces—Boulemane, Sefrou, Taza, Khénifra, Chichaoua, Midelt, Al Hoceïma, Jerada, Taourirt, Guercif, and El Kelaa des Sraghna—will see between 15 and 30 mm of precipitation, the DGM added.
