A scorching heatwave is set to sweep across several Moroccan provinces from Friday, August 8 to Tuesday, August 12, with temperatures soaring between 39 and 48°C. This intense heat will be accompanied by chergui winds, thunderstorms, hail, and strong gusts, as reported by the General Directorate of Meteorology (DGM). On Friday, temperatures are expected to reach between 39 and 43°C in the provinces of Fquih Ben Salah, Beni Mellal, El Kelaa des Sraghna, Rehamna, Settat, Chichaoua, Marrakech, Youssoufia, Azilal, Al Haouz, Essaouira, Inezgane-Ait Melloul, Chtouka-Ait Baha, Agadir-Ida-Outanane, Tiznit, Sidi Ifni, Laâyoune, Tarfaya, Tan-Tan, and Guelmim, according to an orange-level alert issued by the DGM. Moreover, temperatures ranging from 44 to 48°C are anticipated from Friday through Tuesday in the provinces of Tata, Taroudant, Assa-Zag, Es-Semara, Oued Ed-Dahab, Boujdour, and Aousserd. The heatwave will intensify from Saturday to Sunday, with temperatures between 44 and 48°C affecting the provinces of Laâyoune, Tarfaya, Tan-Tan, and Guelmim, as highlighted by the DGM. Additionally, temperatures between 42 and 46°C will be recorded from Saturday to Tuesday in the provinces of Fquih Ben Salah, Beni Mellal, El Kelaa des Sraghna, Rehamna, Settat, Chichaoua, Marrakech, Youssoufia, Azilal, Al Haouz, Essaouira, Sidi Bennour, Safi, Inezgane-Aït Melloul, Chtouka-Aït Baha, Agadir-Ida-Ou-Tanane, Tiznit, and Sidi Ifni. From Sunday to Tuesday, the provinces of Ouezzane, Larache, Kénitra, Fès, Meknès, Moulay Yacoub, Taounate, Khémisset, Khouribga, Sidi Kacem, Sidi Slimane, Benslimane, Berrechid, and El Jadida will face temperatures ranging from 42 to 46°C. Meanwhile, temperatures between 39 and 42°C are expected in the provinces of Salé, Skhirate-Témara, Médiouna, Nouaceur, Khénifra, Sefrou, Taza, and El Hajeb during the same period. On Monday, the provinces of Laâyoune, Tarfaya, Tan-Tan, and Guelmim will experience temperatures between 40 and 44°C. Additionally, thunderstorms with hail and gusty winds (15 to 30 mm) are forecasted on Friday from 2 p.m. to 9 p.m. in the provinces of Ifrane, Boulemane, Khénifra, and Midelt, concludes the DGM.
