The Spanish Civil Guard has arrested a 22-year-old Moroccan man suspected of involvement in the murder of historian and municipal employee Antonio Campos in the town of Berja (Almería). Campos's body was discovered last Sunday in the trunk of his car, his hands bound and showing signs of a severe beating. According to security sources, the arrest followed the analysis of surveillance camera footage, examination of the victim's phone records, testimony from witnesses and close associates, and evidence collected from the vehicle. While the suspect has been detained, investigators are still working to determine his exact role in the crime. Campos's family reported him missing over the weekend after he left home for Granada to meet a friend but never arrived. His Volkswagen Passat was later found with his body inside, in an incident that has deeply shaken the local community. The investigation remains ongoing under judicial supervision, with the possibility of further arrests. Antonio Campos, 54, was well-known in western Almería for his historical research and his efforts to preserve and promote local heritage, in addition to his role in public administration.
