Two people lost their lives and two others sustained injuries of varying severity when a four-story house on the brink of collapse crumbled on Wednesday morning in Derb Remad, within Casablanca's medina, according to local authorities from the Casablanca-Anfa district prefecture. Upon receiving the alert, local and security authorities, along with Civil Protection services, swiftly mobilized to the site. They immediately launched rescue operations, conducted search efforts, and secured the area surrounding the collapsed structure, as reported. The building in question had been identified as at risk of collapse. Since 2012, it has been under an evacuation order issued by the relevant authorities. While most residents complied and vacated the premises, a few resisted despite repeated efforts by local officials to ensure their safety. The injured were transported to the Moulay Youssef regional hospital center. Meanwhile, the incident has been reported to the public prosecutor's office, which has initiated a judicial investigation.
