Three agreements focused on digital transformation and energy transition were signed Friday in Dakhla, aiming to strengthen the Dakhla-Oued Eddahab region's position as a hub for innovation, renewable energy, and the digital economy. The signing ceremonies followed a meeting at the regional governor's office attended by key officials, including the Minister of Energy Transition and Sustainable Development, Leila Benali; the Minister Delegate to the Head of Government in charge of Digital Transition and Administrative Reform, Amal El Fallah Seghrouchni; the regional governor and governor of Oued Eddahab province, Ali Khallil; and the president of the regional council, El Khattat Yanja. The first agreement focuses on supporting renewable energy and green hydrogen projects in the region, while strengthening energy integration and regional interconnection. The second agreement provides for the creation of the Jazari Institute for Artificial Intelligence and Energy Transition, a scientific and innovative institution with national and African ambitions. The third concerns the establishment of the Green Data Center Igoudar in Dakhla, a strategic data infrastructure powered entirely by renewable energy. In her remarks, Benali highlighted that the southern provinces currently host renewable energy plants with a combined capacity of 1,442 MW, 101 MW from solar and 1,341 MW from wind, representing nearly 22 billion Moroccan dirhams (MMDH) in investment. She added that the national equipment plan for electricity generation for 2025–2030 includes new projects in the southern provinces with a total capacity exceeding 1,400 MW, requiring investments of more than 15 billion dirhams. For her part, Seghrouchni stated that these agreements mark the beginning of a new phase driven by major, innovative Moroccan projects with a continental dimension.
