A 34-year-old Moroccan man was tragically struck by a car while crossing a zebra crossing in Dordrecht, a city in the western Netherlands. The accident, which occurred on Tuesday, December 2, cost Ahmed, who had recently moved to the Netherlands for work, his life. «It is already a tremendous loss», his close friend Aziz El Manouzi told AD, describing him as «a very pleasant, committed and wise human being». Ahmed, who had found a job in construction, had no fixed residence, police said. The driver, a 37-year-old woman from Dordrecht, was arrested but later released pending trial. According to police, she was not speeding at the time of the accident. For Ahmed's family in Morocco, the news has been devastating. «His parents were not able to say goodbye to him», El Manouzi said. His body will be flown to Morocco for burial, and El Manouzi plans to attend. A crowdfunding campaign launched by acquaintances, including a relative of El Manouzi, has already raised more than €8,000 to cover repatriation costs, as Ahmed had no funeral insurance.
