DR ‹ › Morocco has secured yet another diplomatic triumph at UNESCO, with the election of anthropologist Ahmed Skounti to the Intergovernmental Committee for the Safeguarding of Intangible Cultural Heritage this Friday, December 12. This significant vote took place during the committee's 20th session in New Delhi, India's bustling capital. The Moroccan candidate garnered a resounding majority, securing 20 out of 24 votes. Professor Skounti, one of the key architects behind the 2003 Convention for the Safeguarding of Intangible Cultural Heritage, is a respected educator at the National Institute of Archaeology and Heritage Sciences (INSAP) in Rabat. His previous tenure on the Evaluation Body from 2015 to 2017, during which he twice assumed the role of chair, was highlighted by MAP. This achievement comes on the heels of the Moroccan caftan's recent inscription on the List of Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity, further cementing the kingdom's influence within the United Nations organization. It is worth noting that Morocco was also elected to the UNESCO Executive Board on November 7, with its candidacy receiving an impressive 146 votes.
