DR ‹ › Morocco opened its Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) 2025 campaign with a 2–0 victory over the Comoros on Sunday at Prince Moulay Abdellah Stadium in Rabat, securing its first win in Group A. The hosts dominated a match marked by a highly defensive first half from the Comoros, followed by a more assertive Moroccan performance after the break. The match kicked off after a spectacular opening ceremony chaired by Crown Prince Moulay El Hassan, who also officially launched the game after greeting the players on the pitch. The first half ended goalless, with the Comoros adopting a compact defensive setup that successfully neutralized the Atlas Lions' repeated attacking attempts. Morocco came close to opening the scoring shortly before the break when Brahim Diaz won a penalty after a strong challenge, but Soufiane Rahimi failed to convert, as the Comorian goalkeeper made the save. Morocco finally broke the deadlock in the 55th minute, with Brahim Diaz finding the back of the net early in the second half. Ayoub El Kaabi then sealed the victory in spectacular fashion, doubling the lead with an acrobatic overhead kick in the 74th minute. Thanks to this win, Morocco tops Group A with three points, at least provisionally. The group's second fixture will see Mali face Zambia on Monday at the Mohammed V Sports Complex in Casablanca.
