DR ‹ › The first Muslim mayor of New York Zohran Mamdani is a fan of the Atlas Lions. On Sunday, he was spotted watching the opening match of the Africa Cup of Nations, currently being held in Morocco, cheering on Morocco in its first Group A game against Comoros, which the Atlas Lions won 2–0. Zohran watched the match at a Moroccan restaurant in New York called Dar Lbahja. «Truly one of the kindest, happiest, and most humble people», the restaurant wrote on Instagram, captioning a video of Zohran watching the game. «He watched the match with everyone—smiling, laughing, and sharing genuine joy like family. No ego, just good energy and respect for the culture and the people», the post added. Zohran cheered on the Atlas Lions while enjoying lentils the Moroccan way, roasted chicken, a tajine, pastilla, and an assortment of Moroccan pastries, including kaab lghzal and ghrieba. Atlas Lions fans, proudly wearing Moroccan jerseys, took turns snapping photos with the popular mayor. Zohran appears to have a soft spot for Moroccan football. In a previous statement, he admitted that the first thing he thinks about when he wakes up in the morning is «Sébastien Squillaci, Pascal Cygan, and Marouane Chamakh».
