DR ‹ › A total budget of 49 billion dirhams has been mobilized for Morocco's direct social assistance system since its launch in December 2023, Minister of Economy and Finance Nadia Fettah Alaoui announced on Tuesday in Rabat. Speaking during an oral question session at the House of Councillors on «the assessment of direct social assistance», submitted by the Authenticity and Modernity parliamentary group, the minister said that 31 billion dirhams were allocated to benefits aimed at protecting children against social risks, while 17 billion dirhams were dedicated to the flat-rate allowance. Fettah Alaoui noted that since last November, monthly allowances for school-enrolled children under the age of six have increased from 200 to 250 dirhams, while benefits for orphans rose from 350 to 375 dirhams. An additional 100-dirham supplement is also granted in cases where the child has a disability. She further stressed that the implementation of the regulatory framework governing the direct social assistance system has been completed, highlighting in particular the government council's adoption of a draft decree setting out the conditions and procedures for accessing the special allowance provided under the scheme. On governance, the minister recalled the adoption of the Unified Social Register (RSU) and the social indicator, as well as the monitoring role entrusted to the National Agency for Social Support (ANSS). Finally, she announced that a pilot phase has been launched this month to open regional territorial offices of the agency, with the aim of strengthening direct interaction with citizens and improving the overall quality of social assistance delivery.
