DR ‹ › On Sunday evening, Moroccan authorities thwarted an attempt by more than 100 migrants from sub-Saharan African countries to reach the double border fence of Ceuta, coinciding with the Africa Cup of Nations final between Morocco and Senegal. According to Spanish Civil Guard sources, the migrants sought to take advantage of what they believed would be reduced vigilance by security forces due to the final match taking place in Rabat. The same sources said the Spanish Civil Guard was on high alert but did not intervene, as the group failed to breach the approximately 10-meter-high double border fence. They added that the migrants later attempted to move toward the mountainous areas surrounding Ceuta, before being intercepted by Moroccan auxiliary forces deployed in the area.
