DR ‹ › Austrian authorities, with the assistance of Morocco's General Directorate of Territorial Surveillance (DGST), have arrested an Austrian citizen in a significant anti-terrorism operation. The individual is accused of having connections with the terrorist organization «Islamic State» (IS) and plotting large-scale attacks within Austria. The pivotal role of the DGST in this operation was lauded by Jörg Leichtfried, Secretary of State for the Protection of the Constitution, and Franz Ruf, Director General of Public Security, according to a statement from the Austrian Ministry of the Interior. Both officials commended the Moroccan services for their crucial contribution to the success of the investigation. The ministry further highlighted the essential collaboration between the Austrian Directorate for State Protection and Intelligence (DSN) and the DGST, describing it as «particularly decisive» and emphasizing the critical importance of international cooperation in the fight against terrorism. Authorities revealed that the investigation uncovered concrete plans for attacks, specifically targeting law enforcement in Austria. A search of the suspect's residence resulted in the confiscation of electronic devices containing IS propaganda and videos created by the suspect, one of which allegedly shows him pledging allegiance to the group. The analysis of the seized materials is ongoing, and the investigation remains active, Austrian authorities confirmed.
