DR ‹ › The Port Authority of Algeciras Bay (APBA) announced on Wednesday the suspension of all maritime connections between the ports of Algeciras and Tarifa and those of Tangier, due to extreme weather conditions affecting the Strait of Gibraltar. According to the APBA, the port of Algeciras will also remain closed to freight traffic throughout Wednesday, while no sailings are scheduled from Tarifa to Tangier. In addition, no departures are planned from Algeciras to the port of Tanger Med on the same day. For over a week, maritime links between the two sides of the strait have been repeatedly disrupted due to particularly adverse weather conditions. Spain is currently experiencing an episode of unusually intense storms, affecting large parts of the country, especially Andalusia. The region has been placed on red alert by the Spanish National Meteorological Agency (Aemet) due to heavy rainfall that could lead to potentially dangerous situations.
