DR ‹ › This week, the criminal chamber at the Court of Appeal in El Jadida sentenced a man to eight years in prison for sexually assaulting a 25-year-old woman after allegedly luring her through social media. The case emerged after the victim, who works as a waitress, filed a complaint. She told investigators that she had been in contact on Facebook with a page under a woman's name offering a job at a café. She was later given the phone number of a man who claimed he would hire her. According to her statement, after arranging a meeting in El Jadida, she accompanied him on his motorcycle to a remote dirt road, where she realized the job offer was a hoax, as first reported by Assabah. The victim said she complied out of fear of harm. The suspect later returned her to the city and gave her money. After she reported the incident to the public prosecutor's office, she underwent a medical examination, which did not document physical signs of sexual violence. The suspect was subsequently arrested by the Royal Gendarmerie. During questioning, the accused admitted to creating a fake account under a woman's name to lure young women with a fictitious job offer. He denied using violence and claimed the encounter was consensual.
