DR ‹ › King Mohammed VI chaired a Council of Ministers on Thursday, April 9, at the Royal Palace in Rabat. The meeting was devoted to approving two organic bills, a draft decree related to the military sector, a set of international agreements, as well as several high-level appointments. According to a statement from the Royal Cabinet, at the start of the session, the King questioned the Minister of Agriculture, Maritime Fisheries, Rural Development, and Water and Forests about the progress of the current agricultural season. The minister noted that this season has been marked by significant rainfall, which has boosted agricultural activity and points to promising prospects for the harvest. Rainfall covered all regions of the Kingdom, with an annual average of 520 mm, an increase of 54% compared to the average of the past 30 years. This has had a positive impact on dam reserves, which have reached 12.8 billion cubic meters, with a fill rate of 75%. These reserves are expected to meet irrigation needs for spring and summer crops, as well as the start of the next agricultural season. Regarding fruit production, Morocco recorded strong output in olives, citrus, and dates. Olive production reached a record 2 million tons, up 111% compared to the previous year. Citrus production stood at 1.9 million tons (+25%), while date production reached 160,000 tons, up 55% compared to last season. In line with Royal instructions on rebuilding the national livestock, the minister added that the rainfall has also improved pasture conditions and contributed to better livestock health.
