DR ‹ › Cereal production for the 2025–2026 agricultural season is expected to reach nearly 90 million quintals, Minister of Agriculture Ahmed El Bouari announced on Tuesday in Meknes. «Thanks to the significant rainfall recorded across Morocco, which has benefited all agricultural regions, the area sown with cereals has reached around 3.9 million hectares. Production is therefore expected to approach 90 million quintals», El Bouari said at the opening of a high-level international conference held on the sidelines of the 18th International Agricultural Show in Morocco (SIAM), running until April 28 under the theme «Sustainability of Animal Production and Food Sovereignty». The minister noted that, after several years of drought, this season has seen a clear improvement in rainfall and water conditions, boosting optimism and supporting a recovery in agricultural activity. He added that fruit trees have performed particularly well, especially olives, citrus fruits, and dates, reinforcing the positive outlook for the season, which is expected to deliver satisfactory results, including a projected 15% increase in agricultural GDP compared to last year. El Bouari also highlighted that recent rainfall and snowfall have boosted dam reserves to 13 billion cubic meters, with a filling rate of around 75.7%. With improved water availability, a recovery in irrigated agriculture is expected, he said, noting that current dam levels should cover irrigation needs for spring and summer crops. He also recalled the launch of an irrigation program for the next agricultural season.
