Dutch logistics company Samskip has launched a dedicated container service linking Morocco's ports of Agadir and Casablanca directly to the UK and the Netherlands, offering a faster, greener alternative for transporting Moroccan fruits and vegetables to Northern Europe. In a press release on Monday, August 4, the company announced that its new weekly reefer service, the only one fast enough to carry vegetables, promises the fastest door-to-door delivery on the market, supported by seamless customs clearance and inland transport. Samskip also signed a long-term agreement with the Moroccan Fruit Board to back the initiative. The route enables deliveries to Ireland within six days of departing Agadir and ensures swift cargo distribution across Europe, including Norway, Poland, Sweden, Finland, and the Baltic states, just days after docking in Rotterdam. «This new connection marks a major milestone, not just for Samskip, but for the entire supply chain between Morocco and Northern Europe», said Ólafur Orri Ólafsson, Chief Business Officer at Samskip. «We've listened to growers, importers, and retailers, and will deliver a service that's faster, greener, and more reliable». With the use of 45ft reefer containers and the potential for up to 80% CO2 reduction compared to road transport, the route offers both practical and sustainable advantages. This aligns with Samskip's broader strategy to shift cargo from road to sea and rail, in response to growing demand for reliable and eco-friendly logistics solutions.
