The Moroccan Green Party (PVM) is calling for the direct participation of Moroccans living abroad in the legislative elections scheduled for September 2026. The proposal is outlined in a memorandum the small party submitted last week to the Ministry of the Interior. «We propose the creation of a constituency exclusively dedicated to Moroccans living abroad. The seats would be allocated based on the number of voters in the host countries», said Mohamed Fares, the party's secretary-general, in a statement to Yabiladi. It is worth recalling that Article 17 of the 2011 Constitution guarantees Moroccans residing abroad «full citizenship rights, including the right to vote and eligibility. They can run for elections via local, regional, and national lists and constituencies. The law sets specific criteria for eligibility and incompatibility, as well as the conditions and modalities for the effective exercise of the right to vote and candidacy from the countries of residence». If this option proves difficult to put into practice, the PVM suggests instead «granting seats to Moroccans living abroad through national and regional lists», explained the president of the Federation of African Green Parties (FEVA).
