India's Defence Minister Rajnath Singh is scheduled to visit Morocco from September 21–24, as New Delhi seeks to expand its defence-industrial presence in Africa. The visit will focus on strengthening cooperation with the Royal Moroccan Armed Forces and advancing joint industrial projects already underway, according to Indian media. Morocco–India defence cooperation has been steadily growing in the recent years. Kanpur-based MKU, the first Indian defence company to establish operations in Morocco, has supplied ballistic helmets, body armour, night vision devices, sighting systems, and surveillance equipment over the past four years, supporting Morocco's efforts to modernize its infantry and special forces, the same source reported. In 2024, Tata Advanced Systems Ltd (TASL) signed a strategic agreement with the Moroccan government to assemble and produce 8×8 Wheeled Armoured Platforms (WhAP) in Casablanca. The project marks India's first overseas defence manufacturing venture and Morocco's first large-scale defence assembly plant. Spanning 20,000 square meters, the facility is expected to serve as a hub for exports to African markets while generating local jobs, training opportunities, and vendor development. Singh's visit to Morocco will also help lay the groundwork for the India-Africa Forum Summit scheduled for next year.
