DR ‹ › Ain Sebaa Zoo reopened its doors on Monday, December 29, following a major redevelopment program that has breathed new life into one of Casablanca's most emblematic sites. The revamped zoo, which will welcome the general public starting Tuesday, marks the rebirth of a historic space redesigned to meet contemporary standards for leisure, environmental stewardship, and animal welfare. The opening ceremony was attended by Nabila Rmili, president of the Casablanca City Council, alongside figures from the cultural and educational spheres and representatives of civil society. Spanning 13 hectares, the park offers visitors an immersive journey through biodiversity across three geographic zones : Africa, Asia, and South America. Each area has been carefully designed to replicate, as closely as possible, the natural habitats of the species it hosts. Speaking to MAP, the zoo's general director, Mohamed Mgharfaoui, said he was proud of the reopening, describing the park as a «true green lung» in the heart of Casablanca. He highlighted the scale of the efforts made to revive the historic site and praised the support of local and national authorities in bringing the project to fruition. Mgharfaoui also emphasized the zoo's modern and responsible approach, noting that animals now live in spaces specifically designed to meet their biological and behavioral needs. The park is home to more than 500 animals across over 75 species, a collection he described as a national asset that contributes to the conservation of endangered species. For his part, the zoo's chief curator, Pierre-Marie Beaugé, welcomed the reopening nearly a century after the site's original inauguration. He underlined that the new zoo is the result of years of sustained work, offering enclosures that promote animal well-being and natural behavior. The park also plans to introduce regular new features so that each visit offers something different, he added. Conceived as a true space for leisure and everyday life, the site includes restaurants, playgrounds, educational signage, and immersive virtual reality experiences designed to enhance visits for all ages.
