DR ‹ › In 2025, Morocco consolidated its position as Africa's leading tourist destination, welcoming nearly 20 million international visitors, a 14% increase compared to 2024, according to a report published on Tuesday by UN Tourism. This performance was achieved despite a challenging global environment marked by «high inflation in tourism services and uncertainties linked to geopolitical tensions», UN Tourism Secretary-General Cheikha Al Nowais noted in a statement. At the regional level, Africa recorded an 8% rise in international tourist arrivals, a trend driven in particular by Morocco's strong momentum. The Asia-Pacific region posted growth of 6%, according to the UN agency. Europe, the world's top tourism region, led by France and Spain, registered 793 million international arrivals in 2025, up 4% from 2024 and 6% compared to 2019, before the Covid-19 pandemic. In the Americas, Brazil stood out with a year-on-year increase of 37%, the report added. According to Morocco's Ministry of Tourism, Handicrafts, and Social and Solidarity Economy, the sector's strong performance reflects the implementation of the 2023–2026 tourism roadmap, which focuses on strengthening air connectivity, expanding accommodation capacity, diversifying the tourism offer, improving service quality, and boosting territorial investment. This momentum was accompanied by record tourism revenues, which reached 124 billion dirhams by the end of November 2025, up 19% year-on-year, confirming tourism's role as a key driver of economic growth at the local level. The ministry also recalled that Morocco aims to welcome 26 million tourists by 2030 and to establish itself as a benchmark destination on the global tourism map.
