DR DR DR ‹ › Field operations to evacuate and shelter residents affected by rising water levels of the Loukkos River are continuing in Ksar El-Kebir, where several neighborhoods have been flooded following the exceptional rainfall that has hit northern Morocco in recent weeks. The regional vigilance committee is coordinating on-the-ground interventions by military and civilian rescue and relief teams across multiple locations and access routes in the city, providing assistance to residents in the affected areas. After the rainfall eased and Loukkos River levels partially receded on Saturday and Sunday, many families took advantage of the temporary improvement in weather conditions to relocate to safer areas. Meanwhile, public authorities have continued their efforts to support residents living in zones still at risk of flooding. In this context, the General Directorate of Meteorology issued an updated warning bulletin on Sunday, forecasting heavy rain and thunderstorms from 6 a.m. Monday until noon Tuesday, with expected accumulations of 50 to 80 mm in parts of the Loukkos River basin, particularly in Ouezzane, Chefchaouen, and Larache. These conditions raise the likelihood of another rise in river water levels. In anticipation of further rainfall, public authorities, including local officials, auxiliary forces, and security services, have carried out awareness campaigns, providing practical guidance to residents in flood-prone neighborhoods. Citizens have been urged to comply with preventive measures, particularly evacuation instructions and official weather alerts. Separately, the Royal Armed Forces, in coordination with local authorities, have set up several temporary shelters for displaced residents. These include two accommodation centers at Abdelsalam El-Ghrissi Stadium in the Nahda neighborhood and Karim El Ahmadi Stadium in the Salam neighborhood, both equipped to host hundreds of families under suitable conditions.
