DR ‹ › The efforts undertaken have led to the reopening of 124 out of 168 road sections damaged by adverse weather conditions, while 44 sections remain closed, Minister of Equipment and Water Nizar Baraka said on Wednesday in Rabat. Speaking at a press briefing following the government council meeting, Baraka specified that the affected regions include Tanger-Tétouan-Al Hoceïma, Rabat-Salé-Kénitra, Fès-Meknès, Marrakech-Safi, Souss-Massa, Casablanca-Settat, Béni Mellal-Khénifra, and the Oriental region. He explained that the closures are mainly due to rising water levels, which affected 119 sections, as well as rockfalls and landslides impacting 49 sections. Several infrastructure structures have also collapsed, particularly in rural areas. A comprehensive damage assessment is expected to be completed by Friday. To address the situation, the minister said emergency interventions were swiftly deployed to reopen affected routes, restore access to isolated areas, and ensure road safety as quickly as possible. Studies will also be conducted to plan the reconstruction of the damaged sections. Baraka further reported that 390 machines, including trucks, graders, loaders, excavators, and bulldozers, have been mobilized in the affected areas, along with 572 engineers, technicians, and equipment operators. Specialized companies have also been enlisted to support the recovery efforts.
