DR ‹ › The parliamentary group of the PJD has urgently requested a meeting of the Productive Sectors Committee at the House of Representatives. The purpose of this meeting is to address compensation strategies for farmers impacted by the recent severe weather conditions that have struck various regions across Morocco. In a letter to the Committee's president, Abdellah Bouanou, who leads the parliamentary group, emphasized that this request comes in the wake of extraordinary rainfall, locally reaching up to 150 mm, an increase of 35% compared to the annual average since the 1990s. These intense downpours have mainly affected the northern and western parts of the kingdom. The torrential rains have triggered flash floods and widespread inundations, submerging over 110,000 hectares of farmland. Areas such as Ksar El Kébir, Kénitra, Sidi Slimane, Larache, Chefchaouen, and Tangier have been hit particularly hard, resulting in significant damage to crops and rural infrastructure. Abdellah Bouanou highlights the economic and social fallout of this crisis, which exacerbates the challenges faced by already struggling farmers. He urges public authorities to act swiftly and decisively to mitigate losses and provide support to those affected. The parliamentary group has also called for the Minister of Agriculture, Maritime Fisheries, Rural Development, Water, and Forests to attend the meeting. They expect him to deliver a comprehensive report on the situation and detail the emergency measures being taken to assist the impacted farmers.
