DR ‹ › A new easyJet base was inaugurated on Wednesday, April 15, at Marrakech Menara Airport, marking the airline's first installation in Africa, according to a press release from Morocco's National Tourism Office (ONMT). The launch was attended by ONMT CEO Achraf Fayda and easyJet CEO Kenton Jarvis. The base will host three aircraft and offer up to 4 million seats in its first year, significantly boosting connectivity between Morocco and key European markets. Six new routes will be added, bringing the total to 58 connections with the Kingdom. From winter 2026, Marrakech will be linked to Prague, Newcastle, and Zurich, while spring 2026 will see the launch of routes connecting Nantes to Essaouira, Bordeaux to Agadir, and Birmingham to Agadir. Several existing routes from Marrakech, including Lille, Strasbourg, and Hamburg, will also operate year-round. easyJet now serves five Moroccan airports, Marrakech, Agadir, Rabat, Essaouira, and Tangier, confirming its position as the leading carrier to Morocco from the UK and Switzerland, and the third-largest airline operating in the country. The new base is expected to create around 100 direct jobs, along with numerous indirect opportunities, boosting the local tourism ecosystem. It builds on the strategic partnership signed in autumn 2025 between ONMT and easyJet to strengthen connectivity, diversify markets, and support balanced tourism growth. The agreement also includes the expansion of easyJet holidays, with more than 70 establishments in Marrakech. Present in Morocco since 2006, easyJet has transported nearly 20 million passengers to the Kingdom. Through this expansion, ONMT aims to increase capacity, stabilize routes, and broaden markets in support of more structured and sustainable tourism growth.
