DR ‹ › Police in Oujda, in coordination with the General Directorate for Territorial Surveillance (DGST), thwarted an international drug smuggling attempt on Wednesday, leading to the arrest of eight individuals aged between 30 and 49, including an Algerian national residing illegally in Morocco. The suspects are believed to be linked to a criminal network involved in drug and psychotropic substance trafficking. The operation was carried out in Oujda and several surrounding rural areas, where the suspects were caught red-handed while preparing to carry out an international smuggling operation. Searches led to the seizure of approximately 700 kilograms of cannabis resin, along with jewelry and around 4,655,380 dirhams in cash, suspected to be proceeds of criminal activity. Authorities also confiscated 25 drones, 155 batteries, 35 remote control devices, and eight vehicles believed to have been used in these operations. Background checks in national security databases revealed that one of the suspects was already wanted nationwide under a warrant issued by the Royal Gendarmerie in Oujda, in connection with a similar drug trafficking case. The suspects have been placed under judicial investigation under the supervision of the competent public prosecutor's office, to determine the scope of the network and identify all related criminal activities.
