Morocco has been elected Vice-President of UNESCO's Scientific and Technical Advisory Body (STAB), represented by Professor Azzeddine Karra, during elections held this Wednesday. The vote took place at the 16th meeting of STAB, part of the 10th meeting of the States Parties to the 2001 Convention on the Protection of Underwater Cultural Heritage. STAB is made up of 14 international experts who advise the States Parties on how to apply the convention. Their work includes ensuring activities follow the convention's rules, helping countries build capacity, creating national action plans, and supporting the implementation process. Professor Azzeddine Karra, Morocco's representative at UNESCO for underwater cultural heritage since 2013, is a respected expert in the field. He previously served as STAB's chair in 2017, highlighting his important role in protecting underwater heritage worldwide. Morocco's election to this position shows the country's strong commitment to preserving underwater cultural heritage and strengthens its influence within UNESCO.
