Morocco has established a new seasonal record for tomato exports, shipping 745,000 tons during the 2024/25 season and generating nearly $1.2 billion in revenue. This represents an 8.3% increase over the previous season. According to EastFruit, data from Morocco's Office des Changes via Global Trade Tracker show the country surpassed its previous record set in 2022/23 by almost 4%. Morocco now ranks third globally among tomato exporters, behind Mexico and the Netherlands. Tomatoes remain Morocco's leading fruit and vegetable export, accounting for over 30% of the sector's total foreign currency earnings. The country achieved a monthly record in November 2024, shipping 105,000 tons despite facing prolonged drought and labor shortages. France continues as Morocco's largest tomato market, importing nearly half of the total exports in the 2024/25 season. The United Kingdom secured the second position with over 15% of the total volume, while the Netherlands and Spain increased their Moroccan imports. Secondary markets drove significant growth, rising 40% compared to the previous season and contributing 15,000 tons to the overall increase. Belgium emerged as a promising destination with exports nearly quadrupling over two seasons. Scandinavian countries, including Denmark and Norway, recorded three consecutive years of record imports. Sweden, Ireland, and Finland now show strong upward trends after being virtually absent three seasons ago. Morocco also set a new cucumber export record during the same season.
