DR ‹ › The man rescued last week by a Scottish vessel off the Moroccan coast has been identified as a 25-year-old who had been reported missing after attempting to swim from Morocco to Ceuta. According to the ferry crew, his relatives had alerted authorities after he failed to reach Ceuta during the crossing attempt. He was spotted in the water at around 6:30 p.m. on February 3, signaling for help as the CalMac ferry MV Isle of Islay sought shelter from a storm near Morocco. Crew members immediately launched a fast rescue craft and recovered him within minutes. He was wearing multiple layers of clothing, a wetsuit, flippers, and a child's life ring around his neck, and was carrying a mobile phone and money in a watertight bag. The man was intermittently conscious and suffering from hypothermia. Crew members treated him on board and monitored him overnight, as severe weather conditions prevented an immediate transfer to authorities, the vessel's night captain, Neil MacRae, told local media. On February 6, following coordination with Moroccan authorities, he was safely transferred to a local fishing vessel and taken ashore at 1:15 p.m.
