The MV Isle of Islay, currently en route to Scotland after being built at a Turkish shipyard, was forced to leave Gibraltar due to stormy weather, the BBC reported on Monday. While navigating off the Moroccan coast at night, the crew spotted a man in the water and immediately deployed a fast rescue craft to bring him to safety. The man was cared for on board for several days before being transferred to Moroccan authorities. The vessel later sheltered off Morocco's east coast before docking in Almería, Spain, where it remains due to ongoing severe weather conditions. CalMac's fleet management director, Louis de Wolff, said the incident underscored the crew's professionalism, noting that no one expected the ferry to be involved in a sea rescue so soon after its delivery.
