DR ‹ › The latest feature film by Moroccan director Laïla Marrakchi, «La Más Dulce», has been selected for the prestigious Cannes Film Festival, set to take place from May 12 to 23, 2026, in France. The film will compete in the Un Certain Regard category, as announced yesterday by the Moroccan Cinematographic Center (CCM). This Moroccan, French, Spanish, and Belgian co-production tells the compelling story of two young women who leave Morocco to work as seasonal laborers in the strawberry fields of southern Spain. Upon arrival, they find themselves employed under contracts designed for circular migration. Within this framework, «the promised wages from landowners kindle their hopes for a better life upon returning home, both for themselves and their families». However, their dreams are shattered as they fall prey to exploitation and harassment. With the assistance of a lawyer, «they bravely choose to reveal the injustices they have endured, risking their lives in the process», according to the film's synopsis. This narrative powerfully mirrors real-life accounts from the agricultural workers of Huelva. Emerging from the 2025 edition of the Atlas Workshops, the industry program of the Marrakech International Film Festival (FIFM), this film marks Marrakchi's third feature, following her acclaimed works «Marock» (2005) and «Rock the Casbah» (2013). Featuring a talented cast including Nisrin Erradi, Hajar Graigaa, Hind Braik, Fatima Attif, and Larbi Mohammed Ajbar, the film is produced by Lumen (France) and co-produced by Fasten Seat Belt (Spain), Mont Fleuri (Morocco), and Mirage Films (Belgium). Laïla Marrakchi is also known for her short films: «L'Horizon perdu» (2000), «200 Dirhams» (2002), and «Momo Mambo» (2003).
