The General Directorate of Meteorology (DGM) has issued a weather alert for Morocco, warning of thunderstorms with hail and strong winds, as well as a heatwave with temperatures soaring between 39°C and 47°C, fueled by the chergui wind. These conditions are expected from Friday, August 15, through Monday, August 18, affecting several provinces across the country. According to the DGM's orange-level alert, thunderstorms accompanied by hail and gusty winds (15 to 30 mm of rainfall) are forecast for Friday, from 4 p.m. to midnight, in the provinces of Khénifra, Khouribga, Settat, Youssoufia, Al Haouz, Marrakech, and Rehamna. On the same day, temperatures are expected to reach between 42°C and 46°C in Ouezzane, Taounate, Sidi Kacem, Moulay Yacoub, Fès, Settat, Béni Mellal, Khouribga, Fquih Ben Salah, El Kelaâ des Sraghna, Rehamna, Chichaoua, Marrakech, Youssoufia, Taroudant, and Guelmim. From Friday to Monday, Tata, Assa-Zag, Es-Semara, Boujdour, Aousserd, and Oued Ed-Dahab will see temperatures ranging from 44°C to 47°C. Meanwhile, from Saturday to Sunday, highs of 43°C to 47°C are forecast for Ouezzane, Larache, Kénitra, Sidi Slimane, Sidi Kacem, Fquih Ben Salah, Settat, Rehamna, Marrakech, El Kelaâ des Sraghna, and Taroudant. During the same period, temperatures between 40°C and 44°C are expected in Tanger-Assilah, Chefchaouen, Meknès, Taounate, Moulay Yacoub, Khémisset, Salé, Khouribga, Khénifra, Settat, Benslimane, Sidi Bennour, Youssoufia, Safi, Essaouira, Chichaoua, Al Haouz, and Guelmim. From Sunday to Monday, Fahs-Anjra, Tétouan, Al Hoceïma, Oujda-Angad, Berkane, Taourirt, Guercif, Taza, Nador, and Driouch will experience temperatures fluctuating between 39°C and 44°C. On Monday, the heatwave is set to persist, with temperatures ranging from 39°C to 44°C in Chefchaouen, Larache, Ouezzane, Moulay Yacoub, Fès, Taounate, Meknès, Sidi Kacem, Sidi Slimane, Khémisset, Khouribga, Khénifra, Sefrou, El Hajeb, Azilal, Béni Mellal, Fquih Ben Salah, Settat, Rehamna, Marrakech, Youssoufia, El Kelaâ des Sraghna, Al Haouz, Essaouira, Chichaoua, Taroudant, and Guelmim.
