Members of the Amazigh Movement within the GenZ 212 framework announced on Wednesday that they are freezing their participation in the initiative, which seeks to unite Generation Z youth around demands for better public services in education and healthcare, as well as the fight against corruption. The dissenters accused the movement of straying from its founding principles and democratic spirit. In a statement, the signatories denounced what they described as «the instrumentalization of the legitimate struggle of young people in service of ideological positions or specific political agendas», warning that collective decision-making and broad consultation had been sidelined. The declaration specifically condemned remarks made by journalist Aboubakr Jamaï, who was invited to a debate on the movement's Discord platform, followed by «tens of thousands of young people». The Amazigh participants were outraged by the journalist's comments, which they viewed as «hostile to the Amazigh identity, language, and ancestral culture of the Moroccan people», as enshrined in the 2011 Constitution. They also criticized «the negative, biased, and inappropriate treatment by the GenZ 212 Discord administrators toward an activist who simply raised questions related to the essence of democracy and the desired model of development in our country». The statement further pointed to «repeated remarks by several guests denying the Amazigh Movement's struggle as a popular, democratic, and liberation-driven cause». As a result, the signatories announced that they would «suspend all activities within GenZ 212 until it resumes its mobilization toward the overall objectives defended by young members of the Amazigh Movement: reforming the healthcare and education systems and fighting corruption». The declaration was signed by young members from the regions of Souss-Massa, Marrakech-Safi, Casablanca-Settat, Drâa-Tafilalet, and Guelmim-Es-Smara.
