DR ‹ › Kenya has expressed its support for Morocco's autonomy plan for the Sahara under Moroccan sovereignty, describing it as «the only credible and realistic solution» to the dispute, and announced its intention to cooperate with like-minded countries to promote its implementation. This position was outlined in a joint communiqué issued following the first session of the Morocco–Kenya Joint Cooperation Commission, held in Nairobi and co-chaired by Foreign Minister Nasser Bourita and Kenya's Prime Cabinet Secretary and Cabinet Secretary for Foreign and Diaspora Affairs, Musalia Mudavadi. In the communiqué, Kenya welcomed the growing international momentum in favor of the autonomy plan, backed UN Security Council Resolution 2797, and reiterated its support for the efforts of the UN Secretary-General and his Personal Envoy to advance the political process. Morocco, in turn, welcomed Kenya's stance and its support for the UN framework as the exclusive mechanism to achieve a lasting political solution to the dispute.
