Farhan Haq, Deputy Spokesman for the UN / Ph. UN ‹ › The recent tragedies, including the collapse of two buildings in Fès and the catastrophic floods in Safi, were topics of discussion during a press briefing held on December 15, led by the United Nations Deputy Spokesperson. A Palestinian journalist pressed the UN about the lack of an official condolence message from Secretary-General Antonio Guterres in response to these disasters. «We express our condolences in some cases and not in others, but our hearts are with all the victims, whether affected by the building collapses or the floods», replied Farhan Haq succinctly. The same journalist had previously challenged the UN Deputy Spokesperson two months prior, regarding the GenZ protests in Morocco. He urged Antonio Guterres to take a position on this movement, noting that the Secretary-General had recently expressed concerns about protests in Ecuador. The UN ultimately responded to his request.
