DR ‹ › This Tuesday morning, February 3rd, at 8:00 AM, local authorities in the Tetouan region initiated the evacuation of residents from several flood-threatened areas to designated shelters. This action is part of a series of proactive measures in anticipation of the expected weather disturbances on Wednesday, February 4th. A source from the Tetouan provincial administration informed Yabiladi that the evacuation efforts focused on the neighborhoods of Kouilma, Sidi El Bahrouri, and Nassim Touibla. So far, 89 families have been relocated, with no reports of resistance from the residents. The source further explained that residents were notified of the evacuation through direct communication by local officials, noting a high level of cooperation and responsiveness from the community. According to official data, these areas are not classified as the «most dangerous», but authorities have opted for a preventive approach to mitigate any potential emergencies amidst the unstable weather forecasts. The evacuated families have been relocated to shelters in Bouanan, Moulay El Mehdi, and Touabel, where facilities have been prepared to ensure their safety and comfort, as per the same source. In this context, over 900 personnel from various agencies, including security forces, civil protection units, national aid officials, and volunteers, have been mobilized. Additionally, 252 mobile units, such as pumping trucks and bulldozers, are ready to ensure effective field interventions. The Regional Vigilance and Monitoring Committee, led by the Governor of Tetouan Province, Abderzak El Manssouri, convened a coordination meeting yesterday. This resulted in a series of proactive measures, including the clearing of water channels and monitoring of critical points susceptible to rain accumulation, particularly in low-lying neighborhoods and sensitive road sections. As part of these precautionary steps, it was also decided to suspend classes on Tuesday and Wednesday at all educational, university, and vocational training institutions in the region.
