DR ‹ › The Consulate General of Morocco in Bordeaux celebrated the kickoff of the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON 2025) in Rabat on Sunday by hosting an evening event featuring the screening of the inaugural match between Morocco and the Comoros Islands. This evening marked the start of a series of cultural and sporting events organized by the consulate, in partnership with the African Cultural Institute (ICA) and the Franco-Moroccan circle The Moroccan Network, throughout the duration of the CAN. The event brought together local elected officials, members of various African diasporas residing in Bordeaux, institutional representatives, civil society actors, as well as figures from the diplomatic, cultural, sporting, and media sectors. On this occasion, the Consul General of Morocco in Bordeaux, Nouzha Sahel, highlighted that the 35th CAN reflects the kingdom's new vision in organizing sporting events as a major player in sports cooperation. By hosting this large-scale event, she stated, Morocco is fully committed to making it a success, in line with royal directives and the aspirations of the continent, aiming to reflect the depth of its longstanding relationships with brotherly African countries, based on cooperation, active solidarity, and mutual respect. Through this initiative, the representation seeks to accompany the unfolding of CAN 2025 by promoting noble values such as rapprochement, sharing, and fraternity through sport, added Nouzha Sahel. It is also about highlighting the quality of friendship and cooperation relations between Morocco, the city of Bordeaux, and the Nouvelle-Aquitaine region, marked by a rich history, intense human exchanges, and a shared cultural heritage. During the evening, attendees expressed their appreciation for the organization of CAN 2025 in Morocco, praising the quality of the infrastructure set up by the country and the efficiency of its organizational measures.
